It never amazes me to how the "he said/she said" reaches its ugly hand in to every level of politics. Now, it has reached the local level here in Harrisburg. Harrisburg has seen a large amount of growth over the past decade and as a community has elected not to have the "big box" stores within the city limits in order to preserve the quaint feel of the community. This issue alone has pitted the incumbents against all comers and an incumbent Mayor against the Town Council. While it goes without saying, I like my town the way it is, but nothing is written in stone and one should never say never.
Concord Mills Mall, "North Carolinas largest tourist attraction," was originally proposed to be in Mecklenburg County, Charlotte City Limits, developers were disappointed by the City Council and moved a few miles down I-85 to Cabarrus County and Charlotte missed out on upwards of $20 million per year in tax revenue. We cannot miss the forest for the trees on these big issues including residential density, but it is important to keep an open mind because a closed mind leaves very little room for change.
